Haryana Government provides awards and honours in many fields to the persons who have done some exceptional work in their related field. The State Government provides awards in the fields like Literature, social work, education, entrepreneurship and agriculture.
Important Awards and Honors in Haryana
Important awards and honors in haryana are discussed below:
This award is named after the great poet ‘Surdas’. It is given every year by Haryana Government. The awardee gets a cash reward of Rs.1.5 lakh and a citation in this award. On 22nd May, 2016 the name of the award was changed from ‘Sur Award’ to ‘Sur Samman Award.
Lifetime Literacy Sadhna Award
This award is given annually to litterateur who greatly contributed in the field of Literature throughout his life. The awardee gets a cash reward of Rs.5 lakh in this award.
Haryana Sahitya Ratna Award
This award is given annually to the indigenous people of Haryana. The awardee gets a cash reward of Rs.2.5 lakh, statue of Saraswati, a shawl, and a citation printed on a copper plate.
Haryana Gaurav Samman
This award is given to those litterateurs who live outside Haryana and greatly contribute in the field of Haryana Literature. The awardee get a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh in this award.
The Haryana Urdu Akademi honour Urdu Litterateurs every year for their exceptional contribution in Urdu literature. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs.2.51 lakh which was earlier Rs.1.21 lakh.
Fakhre Haryana Award
It is given in the field of Urdu Literature. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs.3 lakh in this award which was earlier Rs.1.50 lakh.
Syed Muzaffar Hussain Burney Award for Urdu Poetry
This award is given to Urdu poets for their outstanding work in Urdu poetry in Haryana. The awardees get a cash price of Rs.51000 in this award.
Khwaja Ahmad Abbas Award for Urdu Prose
This award is given to Urdu writers who done exceptional work in Urdu Literature in Haryana. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 51000 in this award.
Munshi Gumani Lai Award for Urdu Fiction

Lakhmi Chand Award
Lakhmi Chand was the famous poet of Haryana language and folk artist. After seeing his exceptional work, the Haryana Art and Culture Institute established this award after his name. This award is given annually to the litterateurs who have done great work in the field of Haryana Literature.
The awardees get a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh by the State Government of Haryana in this award.
Balmukund Gupt Award
This award is given to litterateurs who have done outstanding work in Hindi Literature of Haryana. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh in this award.

Maharishi Valmiki Award This award is given by Haryana Sanskrit Akademi every year to the Sanskrit scholars and litterateurs for their outstanding work. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh in this award.
Maharishi Ved Vyas Award This award is given by Haryana Sanskrit Academy every year to the Sanskrit Scholars and Litterateurs for their exceptional work in the field of Sanskrit Literature. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 51,000 in this award.
Banabhatta Award This award is given by Haryana Sanskrit Akademy every year to Sanskrit Scholars and litterateurs for their exceptional work in the field of Sanskrit Literature.
Haryana-Punjabi Akademi Awards
Haryana-Punjabi Akademi provides the following awards:
Haryana-Punjabi Gaurav Award This award is given by the Haryana Government to the litterateurs who have done outstanding work in the field of Punjabi Literature.
The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 2.5 lakh in this award. This award has been given to Atamjit Hanspal (2013), Kadarnath (2014), Ramesh Kumar (2015) and Dr Amrita Kaur Raina (2016).
Bhai Santokh Singh Award This award is given by the Haryana Government. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 1.25 lakh in this award. This award has been given to Pal Kaur and Jagir Kaur Sandhu (2013), Sahib Singh Arshi (2014), Sudarshan Gaso (2015) and Joginder Kaur Agnihotri (2016).
Bab a Sheikh Farid Award This award is given by the Haryana Government. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 1.11 lakh in this award. This award has been given to Nayab Singh Mander (2013) Subeg Saddar (2014), Darshan Singh (2015) and Sadhu Singh Kisan (2016).
Sant Taran Singh Vahimi Award This award is given by the State Government under which the awardee get a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh. This award has been conferred to Gurdarpal Singh (2013), Lakhwinder Singh Bajwa (2014), Iqbal Singh (2015) and Manjit Kaur Ambalwi (2016).
Patrakarita Puraskar This award is given by the Haryana Punjabi Akademi in which awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 51,000. This award has been conferred for the year 2016 to Bhupinder Singh Panniwala.
State Level Awards for Women
On 8th March, 2010, on the International Women’s Day’, the Government of Haryana announced the following awards for women of Haryana.

Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award
This award was instituted by the Government of Haryana in the year 2010.
This award is given to those women who work selflessly for the society, women empowerment and rehabilitation of children. The awardees get a cash prize Rs.1.5 lakh and a citation in this award.
Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award
This award was instituted after the name of the first Indian woman astronaut, Kalpana Chawla, in the year 2010.
This award is given to those women who perform acts of bravery and meritorious services for the society and nation. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs.51000 and a citation in this award.
Bahin Shanno Devi Panchayati Raj Award
This award was instituted by the Government of Haryana in 2010 after the name of the first woman Speaker of Legislative Assembly of Haryana, Bahin Shanno Devi.
This award is given to those women panchayat leaders who have done exemplary work for the empowerment of women, female literacy, health and nutrition, universalisation of education, sanitation, water, hygiene, environment conservation and universalisation of education, etc. The awardees get a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh in this award.
Other Important Awards of Haryana
State Awards to Teachers
On 5th September (Teachers Day), every year the Government of Haryana gives this award to teachers for their exceptional work in education system. It is given in two categories i.e. Primary and Secondary levels. The awardees get a cash prize of Rs. 21,000 and a citation in this award.
Haryana Entrepreneurship Award
This award is given to hard working and skilled entrepreneurs of Haryana who have provided exceptional services in the commerce. It is given by Haryana Labour Welfare Board.
Jan Nayak Devilal Award
It is given at state and district levels to those farmers who have done great work in agriculture.
Gallantry Awardees from Haryana
The Government of India provides gallantry awards to military personnels of the state in different categories. These are :
Param Vir Chakra
It is the highest gallantry award in India. This award was given to Major Hoshiar Singh (born in 1936) in 1972 who belonged to Sisana village of Sonipat for his valour and exceptional leadership, by the Government of India. He is the only Param Vir Chakra awardee of Haryana.
It is the third highest gallantry award of India, which is given for acts of bravery on the battle field. The people of Haryana who received this award are Roop Chand of Kharkhodo village, Sonipat in 1948, Subedar Shivchand Ram of Kuleri village, Hisar in 1948 and Hawaldar Lakhmi Chand of Dhanana village, Bhiwani in 1967 (posthumously).
